My role as the school counselor is to promote students’ success by providing support in the domains of academic achieviement, social/emotional learning, and career/future readiness.  Services include academic support, personal management, coping skill, and decision making by meeting with students in the classroom, in small groups, and/or individually.  All counseling is both confidential and goal directed.

The school counselor can also provide information and referrals to community resources. My goal to get to know all students and be accessible to them. Students may request a meeting by completing the counselor meeting request form. Parents are welcome to call or email for advice about school-related situations. However, it is suggested that parents and students contact teachers first when there is an academic question.

Understand the important role of school counselors
When you were in middle school, you may not have had a guidance counselor. A generation ago, counselors often worked only in high schools. Their job was to help students choose courses and plan for life after graduation.

School counselors still do those things in high schools. But now they do much, much more. Counselors know that students need good mental health, as well as good physical health, to be productive learners. They are a key part of the educational team in middle schools.

Your child’s school counselor can help your child with:

  • Academics and study skills, including organization.

  • Choosing classes.

  • Solving problems with friends.

  • Making decisions.

  • Coping skills, including dealing with stress.

  • Setting goals.

  • Making plans for high school and beyond.

  • Short term counseling sessions, either one-on-one or in a small group.

  • Referrals to other professionals.

  • Finding support if your child or your family is facing a crisis.
